25.8.06: Those of a nervous disposition look away now.
In case you were wondering what is in store for our district if Lancashire County Council get their way, take a look at what the bulldozers have done a few miles north in the South Lakes.
These photos clearly show the devastation and disruption being inflicted right now on the A590 at High and Low Newton, as glorious countryside on the North side of Morecambe Bay is destroyed forever by a £35.3 million bypass. Imagine the carnage caused by a £120 million link road.
Never mind the Green Belt, the countryside is under threat even in a National Park. The Highways Agency claims that the A590 bypass will redress unacceptable noise dirt dust and fumes levels in the villages. The Heysham M6 link road will do the exact opposite and dramatically increase these pollution problems for our communities. The Link road is no bypass it would cut through residential areas bringing misery to thousands. Road building might win cheap votes in the short term but it is no answer to our ever increasing traffic problems.
New roads always increase the volume of cars and HGV’s on the already saturated system. Politicians will just not face up to that fact, and we and our countryside have to pay the price.
