4.2.07: Morecambe Visitor Editorial:

This week (31.1.07) the Morecambe Visitor devoted an editorial to TSLM and our struggle against the monster road.

Thanks for the compliment, Vis, but we should point out:

- we are not a small pressure group, just local people with massive support from all over the district, who are not prepared to have our environment needlessly destroyed by a massive road, the purpose of which is to bring into the area more heavy road traffic enticed up here to use the Heysham ferry.

- it's not that we are particularly media savvy, it's just that it's easy to show how the Northern Route is such a bad idea. If proper consultation had taken place, the Council would not be in the corner it now finds itself in. If the £137 million HGV route would solve Lancaster & Morecambe's congestion, then opposing the huge dual carriageway would be a whole lot harder.

Let’s face it, the world is changing rapidly with global warming caused by carbon emissions; neither the Council nor the Government can defend this scheme which will encourage more car usage, but it is very difficult to stop. Yet the County Council's latest ploy, blowing £137 million to build the road and then spending £1.8 million to make themselves look green, is cynical, sickening and a misuse of public money. Who can deny us the public inquiry now?
