I very much enjoyed this elooy as a work of fiction: The story kept going back and forth in time, and occasionally had me really confused because I wasn’t sure if things were really happening or not. And then he does, in New Jersey. Quando ho visto come rispondevano, mi sono venuti i brividi: A sense of ambiguity is retained – it’s never wholly clear whether Emilia is a real person whom the author has chosen to write about, or simply a figment of his imagination – but his presence in the story adds another level of interest to the plot, inviting the reader to constantly question what they are being told.
Then it goes back in time and talks about how they first met and their first few dates and their sex life.

I won this book on GoodReads and was hoping for a good educational historical novel. But when reality includes the disappearance of such swaths of a populace, is that reality enough?

Those who opposed purgtorio regime were called subversives and the military systematically rounded them up and got rid of them in their “National Reorganization Process. Loved the premise, hard time following the author’s train of thought. It’s not the “ghost” story I thought it might be.
