In this extraordinary series of talks, Osho lays out a clear understanding of the difference between mind and consciousness, and the role that the brain plays in the two – a realm that Western science has been struggling to define for decades, but that Zen has known for centuries through first-hand experience. Along the way he also sheds light on the differences between meditation as practice and as a state of being, and what choiceless awareness really means in everyday life and relating.
As such, it is extraordinarily straightforward in its message, cutting straight to the point of what Zen practice really is and where it aims to take the practitioner – to a state of thought-free awareness in the present moment, without judgment or attachment: The struggle of what one likes and what one dislikes is the disease of the mind. IMHO, this is mign one of Osho’s finest works and I’ve read nearly all of his books and a few of them many times over. Osho tells a story of a man whom I was unfamiliar with: Never heard the name before, which was surprising, because a have a vast history in the study of Eastern thought and practice.
This is a beautiful book and it was the title that caught my attention immediately. Osho’s way of hsinn the reader through the depths of Sosan’s teachings are so Osho; meaning – lovingly compassionate, yet sharply truthful.
And the sense of calm that comes in the times and spaces between reading the text is indescribable. The book is clearly non-religious – it either fits into any paradigm or shatters it completely, depending on where you’re at in your Journey to Understanding.
It hein simply delicious; you’ll either savor every word of it or chuck out it as nonsense. Either way, it will get inside you and begin to work its magic. As usual OSHO comes up with another masterpiece. Fabulous work for anyone of any faith.
