The book, written eimeis a bit dated in some of its illustrations leroj this is sims overlooked when one considers the excellent material in the book. The first 50 pages or so deals with the biblical importance and support for multiplying disciples. A multiplying disciple, according to Eims, is one who has believed in Christ and is following Him and is helping other people follow Him, who in turn help others follow Jesus.
They are multiplying their impact lerroy the lives of others. Following this foundational section, Eims presents an exceedingly practical section covering the last two thirds of the book called “The Process of Making Disciples. It looks like the last half of the book is a series of teachings loosely related to discipleship but not really linked to each other. All of the chapters are helpful but it doesn’t have lefoy flow of the first 50 pages. Still, this book is a must read for those interested in disciple making.
After the Bible, this is a great place to start in your thinking about fulfilling the Great Commission. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. A majority of the population I deal with is not college educated and would be overwhelmed by Eims Discipleship to do list.
Manifesting God’s Grace, loving our fellow believers and all men, demonstrating that our decision making principles are guided by God’s word are all good starters. For hundreds of years weve been relying lreoy the pulpit and small groups of various kinds to make disciples but that just hasnt done it.
Check the social studies by the Pew organization and otheres. Are the people you know disciples or just nice people?. The Study of churches reported in the book Move prove it, were not making disciples. Something has to change!
That something is working one on one with a younger believer by lerog more mature lery. Elijah and Elisha etc. Read it, do it. If you are a leader amongst the church or any organization for that matter this is a must read! It’s useful, it’s practical, and it’s a good read. LeRoy Eims has such a great view on discipleship.
Much different form what I had learned. It honestly changed my entire view of discipleship! It may feel a little repetitive near the end but conquer through it. It’s definitely worth it! One person found this helpful. This is one of the all-time great works on personal discipleship, written by a man who excuse the pun wrote the book on discipleship.
It deals with character, lifestyle, and leadership in a way peroy is seldom discussed in today’s social media-saturated world. This seems like it could be a very helpful eimss to some people. I was asked to read it.
I found a misused scripture on day one of reading, so I believe a lot more research would be required to best judge it. Leroy has challenged his readers as Christians we sometimes forget the great commission and seek out to make converts and not disciples. In this time and age discipleship becomes even more challenging when we are so caught up with our daily life activity and time is always an issue.
We are limited time for the things of God and this book encourages not new ways in approaching disciple making but biblical ways we have ignored. Remember we are call to serve not be served. May that servant-hood spirit empower us to go on.
